WROUGHT-IRON FLOWER

The floral ironwork of Casa Vicens draws inspiration from the marigolds that once covered the surrounding gardens. Its sculpted petals reveal Gaudí's earliest expression of nature transformed into architecture.

The story

The Garden in Stone

is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the very first residential house designed by Antoni Gaudí. Built between 1883 and 1885 as a summer home for Manuel Vicens, this vibrant masterpiece showcases an early orientalist and Neo-Mudéjar style. It heavily incorporates checkerboard ceramic tiles, ironwork shaped like palm leaves, and bright nature-inspired colors before Gaudí transitioned into his signature organic shapes.
